Ketika Cinta Bertasbih berfokus pada perjalanan tokoh Azzam (M. Cholidi Asadil Alam), seorang mahasiswa Indonesia yang menuntut ilmu di Universitas Al Azhar Kairo-Mesir. Kuliahnya tertunda selama 9 tahun setelah ayahnya meninggal dunia, sehingga demi menghidupi dirinya dan keluarganya di Solo Azzam berdagang bakso dan tempe di Kairo-Mesir. Namun dari pekerjaannya itulah, ia menjadi terkenal di kalangan KBRI di Kairo, dan mempertemukannya dengan Eliana (Alice Norin), gadis cantik-modern, putri Dubes RI di Mesir.

Perjalanan hidup dan cinta Azzam yang berliku tidak sekedar memberikan pencerahan jiwa namun mengajak penonton untuk lebih mendalami rahasia Illahi dan memaknai cinta. Kehadiran Anna (Oki Setiana), seorang wanita Islami yang menggoda hati Azzam menjadi unsur yang mengikat keduanya dalam misteri cinta yang dikemas dalam sudut pandang yang sangat berbeda dari film-film drama romantis pada umumnya. Peran adiknya bernama Husna (Meyda Sefira), serta Furqan (Andi Arsyil)-teman kuliahnya yang juga berasal dari Indonesia dan terinfeksi AIDS merangkum perjalanan hidup Azzam menjadi sebuah cerita yang sangat bernilai.

Film ini didukung oleh belasan artis senior papan atas, seperti Deddy Mizwar, Didi Petet, Slamet Rahardjo, Ninik L Karim, Nungki Kusumastuti, bahkan sastrawan-Taufik Ismail pun muncul sebagai cameo. Ilustrasi musik dan soundtrack ditangani oleh Melly Goeslaw dan Anto Hoed. Krisdayanti pun tampil sebagai salah satu pengisi album soundtrack film Ketika Cinta Bertasbih.

Seluruh setting dalam novel dihidupkan dengan pengambilan gambar dari lokasi sebenarnya di Kairo-Mesir. Termasuk KBRI di Mesir, Sungai Nil, bahkan Universitas Al Azhar yang selama ini tidak memperbolehkan film asing melakukan syuting di lokasi tersebut. Separuh mahasiswa Indonesia asli yang menimba ilmu di Universitas Al Azhar Kairo-Mesir juga terlibat dalam proses pembuatannya.

Hollywood sepertinya belum puas "mengeksploitasi" anak-anak yang memiliki kemampuan untuk membawa "sial" pada sebuah keluarga. Setelah Damien (dalam The Omen) dan Joshua (dalam Joshua), kini bersiaplah untuk kedatangan Esther, dalam film bergenre horror, Orphan.

Orphan sendiri menceritakan mengenai sepasang suami istri (Sarsgaard-Farmiga) yang baru saja keguguran. Untuk mengobati suasana hati, mereka memutuskan untuk mengadopsi Esther (Fuhrman), seorang gadis berusia 9 tahun dari sebuah panti asuhan. Esther ternyata tak semanis yang mereka bayangkan.

Sutradara Jaume Collett-Serra sendiri terakhir kali terdengar namanya setelah menyutradarai Goal! 2 dan remake House of Wax. Orphan turut dibintangi oleh Peter Sarsgaard (The Skeleton Key) dan Vera Farmiga, yang baru saja tampil sangat memuaskan dalam The Boy in Striped Pyjamas.

Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. So far, they have failed; activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA. The tension between the aliens and the humans comes to a head when an MNU field operative, Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley), contracts a mysterious virus that begins changing his DNA. Wikus quickly becomes the most hunted man in the world, as well as the most valuable - he is the key to unlocking the secrets of alien technology.
